About
La masa, el relleno, y el hilo -- the dough, the filling, and the thread -- these are the essential steps to making a pastel. And every year, the Rivera family gathers in their beloved house in Santurce, Puerto Rico, to celebrate Noche Buena by reliving the past, toasting the future, and making pasteles. This year, however, an impending decision threatens those traditions and the only home they've ever known. Alondra Rios's heartfelt drama, El Hilo del Pastel, celebrates the Puerto Rican identity by confronting the age-old question: how do we preserve our roots in the face of inevitable change?
